POSTING Position: Custodian I (evening)
Location: Cromwell High School Position Description: To maintain the daily cleaning of a facility as assigned. To provide, if assigned, for the periodic operation of a facility during the absence of the Building Maintainer (day), involving but not limited to the building's cleanliness, structural safety, systems equipment, product delivery and direction of visiting public.
Qualifications: 1. Demonstrated experience (preferably two years) as a school building custodian or equivalent in previous work experience and basic knowledge and strong ability in the practices and principles of school building maintenance and operations.
2. Basic knowledge, skills and ability to perform limited repair of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, building structure, security of school facilities and equipment used therein.
3. Knowledge, skills and ability to perform the basic grounds maintenance and repairs on school site with appropriate equipment.
4. Basic knowledge, skills and ability to read and understand operating instructions and initiate written correspondence.
5. Knowledge, skills and ability in the proper use of appropriate tools, materials and cleaning agents and methods in their use in various phases of custodial work.
6. Basic knowledge, skills and ability to understand and be trained in regulations pertaining to building, fire, safety, and in the safe handling of bio-hazardous materials including disposal.
7. Skill and ability to relate to vendors and contractors to complete their assigned duties.
8. Ability to maintain harmonious relationships with administrators, staff, students and the public.
9. Skills and ability to complete assigned tasks in a timely fashion and within time constraints.
10. Physically capable of performing essential tasks involved in custodial operations for extended periods such as lifting 50 lbs. or more, bending, twisting, cold and hot temperature variations of climate, noise, near moving equipment, on ladders, confined spaces and with toxic or caustic chemicals.
Responsibilities: 1. Inspect designated building areas daily to ensure that the facility is safe and in good working condition at all times.
2. Clean and maintain designated areas of school building and fill in during the absence of other building custodial personnel.
3. Assume assigned responsibility for the general security and fire safety of the building in concert with the district/building security and safety protocols.
4. Perform as assigned routine site maintenance such as mowing, raking, tree and shrub maintenance and snow removal.
5. Assist visitors in fulfilling their needs in their use of the facility.
6. Perform minor repairs on mechanical, electrical, plumbing, building structure and equipment to insure its dependable service and safety in its operation.
7. Cooperate as assigned with state and local agencies during emergency use of facilities.
8. Perform other duties as assigned by the administration. Reports to: Head Custodian, Building Level Administrators and Director of District Operations Terms of Employment:
Compensation: Salary and benefits per MEUI contract; 40 hours per week, 8 hours per day (2:30 PM to 10:30 PM) with a 20 minute paid break that must be taken on school premises in case of emergency.
