Job Description

The YMCA of Metro Atlanta serves more than 300,000 individuals with 23 full facilities and ten additional camping and childcare locations. The Y provides financial assistance to support more than 25,000 youth, teens and families. The Y offers programs that serve kids, adults and families at all stages of life. As the largest provider of early learning and after-school programs in Georgia, the Y is closing the achievement gap for Atlanta youth. During the teen years, the Y focuses on leadership development to prepare teens to connect to and serve their communities. A leader in healthy living, the Y offers youth sports and wellness programs designed to help kids and adults live healthier and be more active. Under the direction of the Wellness Director, the Wellness Coach will build personalized relationships that will support a positive member experience. The Wellness Coach will oversee and manage the wellness area to ensure proper social distancing of members while they are utilizing the wellness area; following safety and risk guidelines that include maximum members allowed in designated areas of the facility. The Wellness Coach must perform cleaning responsibilities in accordance with the policies and protocols stated by the YMCA of Metro Atlanta, including scheduled cleaning of all available equipment and following member use.

Minimum Requirements:

* Bachelor's degree preferred in exercise science, physical education, exercise psychology, behavioral science, or a health-related field.

* Must be at least 18 years of age.

* At least six (6) months of experience in health- or wellness-related field.

* Must obtain/maintain full access to Y-Exchange (yexchange.org) and to YISE (yise.ymcaatlanta.com).

* YMCA/ACE online certification and supplemental courses required by Y-USA within 30 days of hire date.

* Must maintain certifications by uploading continuing education credits via Y-Exchange (yexchange.org) prior to date of expiration.

* Must possess current CPRO/AED and O-2 certifications and renew them annually prior to date of expiration. Updated licenses shall be uploaded via Y-Exchange (yexchange.org).

* Knowledge of general weight-lifting and health/wellness concepts and the ability to demonstrate use of wellness-related equipment.

* Must be knowledgeable about fitness-related issues, including, but not limited to, aerobic vs. anaerobic exercise, nutrition, benefits of exercise, injury-prevention, and THE COACH APPROACH.

* Must possess a high degree of human relations skills, must be able to facilitate class interaction and socialization, and should be considered a team player by members, co-workers and management staff.

* A working knowledge of computers: MS Word, MS Excel, data base management.

* Exemplify YMCA ideals and leadership qualities.

* Ability to handle multiple tasks, to work independently, and to problem solve.

* Possess effective time-management skills.

* Strong customer service skills and personal commitment to service and hospitality.

* Pass a criminal background and drug-screening check.

Ongoing Responsibilities:

* Cleans, maintains and checks equipment (continuous cleaning and following member use) under the direction of the supervisor, reporting any repair needs

* Monitors the wellness center floor and helps members as needed, while enforcing wellness center policies and guidelines - following all COVID-19 safety guidelines that highlight proper social distancing in all areas based on member capacity and effective member/equipment spacing.

* Knows, understands and consistently applies Metro Atlanta YMCA risk and safety guidelines/best practices, and/or branch emergency procedures

* Carry out daily program tasks related directly to the position's scope and responsibility.

* Stay updated on current issues regarding wellness programs.

* Promote, monitor, evaluate, and ensure that all wellness programs run smoothly with a high level of service to participants.

* Maintain branch and association certifications in CPRO and any other required certifications and/or training required by the Metro Atlanta YMCA.

* Maintain all wellness certifications by meeting continuing education requirements. YMCA Health & Well-Being certifications require 10 CECs every two (2) years from YMCA/ACE continuing education courses or other courses provided by/approved by national organizations, which are recognized by Y of the USA, e.g., ACE, ACSM, AFAA, NASM, NSCA, etc. per yexchange.org.

* Secure his/her own substitute coach in a timely manner if he/she is unable to work an assigned shift. The substitute request must be accepted and approved before the coach is relieved of responsibility for the shift.

* Attend all required staff meetings and trainings, including facility or equipment orientations prior to working on the wellness floor.

* Assist as needed in all aspects of the YMCA and its community.

* Responsible for maintaining and reporting incident/accident paperwork.

* Perform other duties as assigned.
